Interludes in Black and White

Large oil paintings on canvas.

Jonathan Roy’s works represent a range of styles, but his focus is the re-establishment of figurative representation as a legitimate vehicle for expression. He champions the “old” materials and pushes for a return to an art world un-fettered by the constraints and expectations fostered by the “new media” and the installation art mania that originated in the 1980’s. From his napkin art to his graphic novels and this “Interlude” series, Jonathan’s pieces explore themes of place, absence, and the spaces in between.
