Sequential Art

Jonathan Roy grew up reading and devouring the French and Belgian “Bandes Dessinées” (B-Ds) that have delighted Europe’s children for decades. Among these are Tintin and Asterix. Europe’s adults also enjoy a wide variety of serious historical and historical fictions in graphic form. These were Jonathan Roy’s inspiration from a very early age, culminating in his Smallpox Zero, a graphic history of a virus and its eradication, published to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the eradication of smallpox in May 2010. This work was followed by sequential art stories of the artist’s Walter character dealing with COVID-19, with family relations, and with homebound play imaginings.

As a teenager, Jonathan developed story lines, sketches, and coloration for his early graphic novels: Disposal Heroes, Contagion and Raganok. Later in life, he worked on Smallpox Zero, Antediluvian, and A Maze in Malta, all graphic story books presented in full color and narration in “comic strip” style.

Copies of the author’s books are on display, and a wide variety of original watercolor plates created for these publications are available for sale.
